Omega Serpentis: A Star and Its Planet

Omega Serpentis is a star 250 light-years away. It has a spectral type of G8 III. Its mass is 2.17 solar masses, its radius is 12.3 solar radii, and its temperature is 4770 K. One planet orbits this star.

That planet is ome Ser b, discovered in 2013 by the radial velocity method, which detects the wobble a planet's gravity induces in its star's motion. Its minimum mass is 234 Earth masses, a lower bound on its true mass, and its orbital period is 279 days. The star's reported mass estimate is larger than the Sun's, and its radius estimate is also larger than the Sun's. The star's reported temperature is cooler than the Sun's. ome Ser b's minimum mass is larger than Earth's.
