Gam Cep: A K-Type Star with a Single Known Planet

Gam Cep is a K-type star located 46 light-years from Earth. Its spectral type, K1 III-IV, places it in the cooler part of the K class. The star has an age of 5.7 billion years, a mass of 1.27 solar masses, a radius of 4.74 solar radii, and a temperature of 4780 K. Its reported mass and radius estimates are larger than the Sun's, while its reported temperature is cooler than the Sun's. One known planet orbits this host.

That planet, gam Cep b, was discovered in 2003 by the radial velocity method, which measures the wobble a planet's gravity induces in its star's motion. It has a mass of 2100 Earth masses, roughly 6.6 times Jupiter's mass and larger than Earth's, and an orbital period of 913 days.
