b Cen A: A Young Star With a Massive Circumbinary Companion

b Cen A is a star 320 light-years from Earth with a spectral type of B2.5 V, placing it among the hotter, bluer stars. It is very young, with an age of 0.015 billion years, and has a mass of 5.5 solar masses, larger than the Sun's. The system contains two stars, and one planet is known to orbit this host.

That planet, b Cen AB b, is a circumbinary world, meaning it orbits both stars of the binary system rather than one star alone. It was discovered by imaging in 2021. Its mass is 3460 Earth masses, roughly 10.9 times Jupiter's mass and larger than Earth's. Its orbital period is 1,790,000 days.
