WASP-82 and Its Jupiter-Like Planet

WASP-82 is an F5 star located 899 light-years away. Its reported mass estimate is 1.3 solar masses, its radius estimate is 2.1 solar radii, and its temperature is 6440 K. Each of these values is larger or hotter than the corresponding solar value. The star hosts one known planet.

WASP-82 b is a Jupiter-like planet discovered in 2015 by the transit method, in which a planet passes in front of its star from our viewpoint and causes a small dip in observed brightness. The planet completes an orbit every 2.71 days. Its radius is 18.2 Earth radii, larger than Earth's, and its mass is 372 Earth masses, also larger than Earth's. Its mean density is 0.342 g/cm³, 0.0621 times Earth's.
