WASP-72 and Its Jupiter-Like Planet

WASP-72 is an F7 star 1420 light-years away. Its reported mass estimate is 1.39 solar masses and its radius estimate is 1.98 solar radii, both larger than the Sun's, while its temperature of 6250 K is hotter than the Sun's. The star's age is 3.7 billion years. One planet orbits this host.

WASP-72 b is a Jupiter-like planet discovered by transit in 2012, meaning it was detected as it passed in front of its star and dimmed its observed brightness. It has a mass of 731 Earth masses, roughly 2.3 times Jupiter's mass, and a radius of 14.5 Earth radii, larger than Earth's. Its orbital period is 2.22 days. The planet's mean density is 1.33 g/cm³, 0.242 times Earth's.
