WASP-69 b: A Jupiter-Like Planet Orbiting a Cool Dwarf

WASP-69 is a K-type star 163 light-years away, with a spectral class that places it among the cooler, orange-hued stars. It has one known planet, WASP-69 b. The star's reported mass estimate is 0.83 solar masses, smaller than the Sun's, and its reported radius estimate is 0.801 solar radii, also smaller than the Sun's. At 4790 K, it is cooler than the Sun, and it is 1.8 billion years old.

WASP-69 b was discovered in 2014 by the transit method, which detects the small dip in a star's brightness as a planet crosses in front of it. The planet is Jupiter-like, a size class defined by a radius exceeding four times Earth's. Its radius is 11.2 Earth radii, larger than Earth's, and its mass estimate is 82.6 Earth masses, also larger than Earth's. Its mean density is 0.323 g/cm³, 0.0586 times Earth's.

WASP-69 b completes an orbit in 3.87 days.
