WASP-65: A Sun-Like Star and Its Jupiter-Like Planet

WASP-65 is a G6 star located 893 light-years away. Its spectral type places it in the same broad temperature class as the Sun. The star has a mass of 0.93 solar masses and a radius of 1.01 solar radii, with a reported temperature of 5600 K, cooler than the Sun's. Its age carries a reported lower limit of 8 billion years. One planet is known to orbit this host.

That planet is WASP-65 b, a Jupiter-like world discovered by transit in 2013. Its radius of 12.5 Earth radii exceeds the Jupiter-like threshold of four Earth radii and is larger than Earth's. Its mass estimate of 493 Earth masses is larger than Earth's and roughly 1.55 times Jupiter's mass. The planet completes an orbit in 2.31 days.
