WASP-62 b: A Jupiter-like Planet Around a Hotter, Larger Star

WASP-62 is a star 573 light-years away with one known planet. The host star is 0.8 billion years old, has a mass of 1.28 solar masses and a radius of 1.29 solar radii, and a temperature of 6230 K. Its mass and radius are larger than the Sun's, and it is hotter than the Sun.

The planet WASP-62 b is Jupiter-like, meaning its radius exceeds 4 times Earth's radius. It was discovered by transit in 2012, when the planet passed in front of its star from our viewpoint and caused a small dip in observed brightness. Its radius is 14.8 Earth radii and its mass is 165 Earth masses, both larger than Earth's. Its mean density is 0.281 g/cm³, 0.051 times Earth's. WASP-62 b completes one orbit in 4.41 days.
