WASP-56 is a star located 1,050 light-years away, and one planet orbits it. The host star has a spectral type of G6, meaning it is a G-type star cooler than the Sun. It is estimated to be 6.2 billion years old, with a mass of 1.02 solar masses, a radius of 1.11 solar radii, and a temperature of 5600 K. Its radius is larger than the Sun's, and its temperature is cooler than the Sun's.
The planet WASP-56 b was discovered in 2012 by the transit method, in which a planet passes in front of its star from our viewpoint and causes a small dip in observed brightness. It is classified as Jupiter-like, a size class for planets exceeding 4 times Earth's radius. WASP-56 b has a mass of 143 Earth masses and a radius of 10.5 Earth radii, both larger than Earth's, and its mean density is 0.674 g/cm³, 0.122 times Earth's. It completes one orbit in 4.62 days.
