WASP-48 and Its Jupiter-Like Planet

WASP-48 is a star 1480 light-years away with one known planet. The host star is 6.6 billion years old, holds 1.06 solar masses, spans 1.52 solar radii, and has a temperature of 6000 K. Its reported radius is larger than the Sun's, and its reported temperature is hotter than the Sun's.

The planet WASP-48 b was discovered by transit in 2011 and is Jupiter-like in size class. A transit occurs when a planet crosses in front of its star from our viewpoint, dimming the observed brightness. WASP-48 b has a mass of 254 Earth masses, a radius of 16.8 Earth radii, and an orbital period of 2.14 days. Its radius and mass are both larger than Earth's, and its mean density is 0.295 g/cm³, 0.0535 times Earth's.
