WASP-4 and Its Jupiter-Like Planet

WASP-4 is a star 872 light-years away with a spectral type of G8. Its age is 7 billion years, and its mass and radius are 0.864 solar masses and 0.893 solar radii, both smaller than the Sun's corresponding values. Its temperature is 5400 K, cooler than the Sun is. The host's reported mass estimate is smaller than the Sun's, and its reported radius estimate is also smaller. One planet orbits this star.

That planet, WASP-4 b, was discovered by the transit method in 2007 and is classified as Jupiter-like because its radius exceeds four times Earth's. Its radius estimate of 15.1 Earth radii is larger than Earth's, and its mass estimate of 381 Earth masses is larger than Earth's, roughly 1.2 times Jupiter's mass. Its orbital period is 1.34 days, so it completes one orbit of WASP-4 in a little over a day. Its mean density is 0.608 g/cm³, 0.11 times Earth's.
