WASP-33 b: A Jupiter-like World Around an A-type Star

WASP-33 is an A-type star located 398 light-years away, with a reported mass of 1.85 solar masses, a radius of 1.55 solar radii, and a temperature of 7310 K. Its reported mass and radius estimates are larger than the Sun's, and its reported temperature is hotter than the Sun's. One planet orbits this host.

That planet is WASP-33 b, a Jupiter-like world discovered in 2010 by the transit method, in which a planet passes in front of its star from our viewpoint and causes a small dip in observed brightness. Its orbital period is 1.22 days, its mass is 665 Earth masses, and its radius is 17.9 Earth radii. Both its reported mass and radius estimates are larger than Earth's, and its mass is roughly 2.09 times Jupiter's mass. Its mean density is 0.644 g/cm³, 0.117 times Earth's.
