WASP-28 and Its Jupiter-Like Planet

WASP-28 is an F8 star 1140 light-years away. It is 5 billion years old, has 1.02 solar masses, and a radius of 1.09 solar radii, larger than the Sun's. Its temperature of 6150 K is hotter than the Sun's. One planet orbits this host.

That planet, WASP-28 b, was discovered in 2014 by the transit method, which detects the small dip in a star's brightness when a planet passes in front of it. WASP-28 b is Jupiter-like, meaning it exceeds 4 times Earth's radius. Its radius is 13.7 Earth radii, larger than Earth's, and its mass is 283 Earth masses, also larger than Earth's. It completes an orbit every 3.41 days. Its mean density is 0.61 g/cm³, 0.111 times Earth's.
