WASP-118 and Its Jupiter-Like Planet

WASP-118 is a star 1230 light-years away with a spectral type of F6, a temperature class hotter than the Sun's G-type. Its reported temperature is 6410 K, its mass is 1.32 solar masses, and its radius is 1.7 solar radii, all larger than the corresponding solar values. The star is 1.17 billion years old. One planet orbits this host.

That planet, WASP-118 b, is a Jupiter-like world discovered by transit in 2016. A transit occurs when a planet passes in front of its star from our viewpoint, causing a small dip in observed brightness. WASP-118 b has a mass of 163 Earth masses and a radius of 16.1 Earth radii, both larger than Earth's. Its mean density is 0.214 g/cm³, 0.0388 times Earth's. It completes an orbit every 4.05 days.
