WASP-10 and Its Jupiter-Like Planet

WASP-10 is a K5 V star, a designation indicating a main-sequence dwarf somewhat cooler and redder than the Sun, and it lies 460 light-years away. It has a reported mass of 0.754 solar masses, a radius of 0.75 solar radii, and a temperature of 4710 K. One planet is known to orbit this host.

That planet, WASP-10 b, was discovered by the transit method in 2008, when it passed in front of its star from our viewpoint and dimmed it slightly. It is Jupiter-like in size class, with a radius of 12.1 Earth radii, larger than Earth's, and a mass of 1000 Earth masses, which is also larger than Earth's and roughly 3.15 times Jupiter's mass. Its mean density is 3.11 g/cm³, 0.564 times Earth's. WASP-10 b completes an orbit every 3.09 days.
