TOI-954: A Distant Star With a Single Jupiter-Like Planet

TOI-954 is a star 779 light-years from Earth. It has an age of 6.14 billion years, a mass of 1.2 solar masses, a radius of 1.89 solar radii, and a temperature of 5710 K. Its reported mass and radius estimates are larger than the Sun's, while its reported temperature is cooler. One planet is known to orbit this host: TOI-954 b.

TOI-954 b is a Jupiter-like planet discovered by transit in 2020. A transit occurs when a planet passes in front of its star from our viewpoint, causing a small dip in observed brightness; repeated dips help establish orbital periods. This planet completes an orbit every 3.68 days. Its radius is 9.55 Earth radii, larger than Earth's, and its mass is 55.3 Earth masses, also larger than Earth's. Its mean density is 0.35 g/cm³, 0.0635 times Earth's.
