TOI-654 and Its Super-Earth

TOI-654 is an M2 V star, a small, cool red dwarf, located 188 light-years away. It has a mass of 0.419 solar masses, a radius of 0.43 solar radii, and a temperature of 3520 K. Its reported mass and radius estimates are smaller than the Sun's, and its reported temperature is cooler than the Sun's. One planet orbits this host.

That planet is TOI-654.01, a Super-Earth discovered by transit in 2024. It completes an orbit in 1.53 days. Its radius is 2.38 Earth radii, larger than Earth's, and its mass is 8.71 Earth masses, also larger than Earth's. Its mean density is 3.57 g/cm³, 0.648 times Earth's. A transit occurs when a planet passes in front of its star from our viewpoint, causing a small dip in observed brightness; repeated dips help establish orbital periods.
