TOI-6478: A Cool Red Dwarf and Its Jupiter-Like Companion

TOI-6478 is an M-type star 126 light-years from Earth, and it hosts one known planet. Its spectral type, M4.0+/-0.5, places it among the cooler, redder stars, with a reported temperature of 3230 K. The star's reported mass estimate is 0.23 solar masses and its reported radius estimate is 0.234 solar radii, both smaller than the Sun's. Its age carries a reported lower limit of 6 billion years.

The one planet detected around TOI-6478 is TOI-6478 b, found by the transit method in 2025. During a transit, a planet passes in front of its star from our viewpoint, causing a small dip in observed brightness; repeated dips help establish orbital periods. TOI-6478 b completes an orbit every 34 days. Its radius is 4.6 Earth radii, larger than Earth's, and that size places it above the Jupiter-like threshold of 4 Earth radii.
