TOI-628 b: A Giant World Around a Hotter Star

TOI-628 is a star 583 light-years away with one known planet in orbit around it. The host star has a mass of 1.31 solar masses and a radius of 1.35 solar radii, both larger than the Sun's corresponding values, and its temperature of 6250 K is hotter than the Sun's. Its age is 1.28 billion years.

The system's sole cataloged planet is TOI-628 b, discovered in 2021 by the transit method. A transit occurs when a planet passes in front of its star from our viewpoint, causing a small dip in observed brightness. TOI-628 b orbits its star every 3.41 days. Its radius of 11.9 Earth radii is larger than Earth's and places it among the Jupiter-like planets, the class for worlds exceeding 4 Earth radii. Its mass of 2010 Earth masses is larger than Earth's and is roughly 6.33 times Jupiter's mass. The planet's mean density is 6.61 g/cm³, 1.2 times Earth's.
