TOI-5542 and Its Jupiter-Like Planet

TOI-5542 is a G3 V star, a Sun-like main-sequence dwarf, located 1140 light-years away. It hosts one known planet. The star's reported mass estimate is 0.89 solar masses, smaller than the Sun's, while its reported radius estimate is 1.06 solar radii, larger than the Sun's. Its age is 10.8 billion years, and its temperature is 5700 K.

The planet, TOI-5542 b, was discovered in 2022 by the transit method, in which a planet passing in front of its star from our viewpoint causes a small dip in observed brightness. It is a Jupiter-like planet, a size class for worlds exceeding 4 times Earth's radius. Its radius is 11.3 Earth radii, larger than Earth's, and its mass is 420 Earth masses, also larger than Earth's and roughly 1.32 times Jupiter's mass. It completes an orbit every 75.1 days.

TOI-5542 b's mean density is 1.6 g/cm³, 0.29 times Earth's.
