TOI-4994 b: A Jupiter-Like Planet in a Distant System

TOI-4994 is a star located 1070 light-years away with a single known planet in its system. The host star has a mass of 1 solar masses, a radius of 1.06 solar radii, and a temperature of 5640 K. Its reported radius estimate is larger than the Sun's, while its reported temperature is cooler than the Sun's. The star's age is 6.3 billion years.

The planet, TOI-4994 b, was discovered in 2024 using the transit method, which occurs when a planet passes in front of its star from our viewpoint, causing a small dip in observed brightness. It is classified as Jupiter-like, a size class for planets exceeding 4 times Earth's radius. TOI-4994 b has a radius of 8.54 Earth radii and a mass of 89 Earth masses; both its reported radius and reported mass estimates are larger than Earth's. Its mean density is 0.787 g/cm³, 0.143 times Earth's. The planet completes an orbit every 21.5 days.
