TOI-2992 and Its Jupiter-Like Planet

TOI-2992 is a star 1770 light-years from Earth, with a single known planet in its system. The star is 4.6 billion years old. Its mass is 1.21 solar masses and its radius is 1.55 solar radii, both larger than the Sun's, while its temperature of 6000 K is hotter than the Sun's.

The planet, TOI-2992 b, was discovered by transit in 2025. During a transit, a planet crosses in front of its star from our viewpoint, briefly dimming the observed brightness; repeated dips help establish its orbital period. TOI-2992 b circles its star every 3.01 days and is Jupiter-like, a size class for planets exceeding 4 times Earth's radius. Its radius of 13.8 Earth radii is larger than Earth's, and its mass of 1060 Earth masses is also larger than Earth's and roughly 3.33 times Jupiter's mass. Its mean density is 2.24 g/cm³, 0.407 times Earth's.
