TOI-2818 b: A Jupiter-Like World in a Distant System

TOI-2818 is a star 1020 light-years away with 0.977 solar masses, 1.23 solar radii, a temperature of 5720 K, and an age of 9.5 billion years. Its reported radius estimate is larger than the Sun's. One planet orbits this host.

That planet, TOI-2818 b, was discovered by transit in 2023. A transit occurs when a planet passes in front of its star from our viewpoint, causing a small dip in observed brightness. TOI-2818 b has a mass of 226 Earth masses and a radius of 15.3 Earth radii, larger than Earth in both respects. Its mean density is 0.349 g/cm³, 0.0633 times Earth's.

Classed as Jupiter-like, TOI-2818 b orbits every 4.04 days, and its size class exceeds 4 times Earth's radius.
