TOI-238: A Nearby K-Type Star with Two Super-Earths

TOI-238 is a K2V star located 263 light-years away. This K-type main-sequence dwarf has an age of 4.3 billion years, a mass of 0.79 solar masses, and a radius of 0.733 solar radii. Its temperature is 5060 K. Two known planets orbit this star: TOI-238 b and TOI-238 c, both classified as Super-Earths and both discovered in 2024.

TOI-238 b was found via the transit method. It has a mass of 3.37 Earth masses, a radius of 1.56 Earth radii, and an orbital period of 1.27 days. Its mean density is 4.9 g/cm³, which is 0.889 times Earth's. Among the listed planets, TOI-238 b has the shortest year, the smallest radius, and the smallest reported mass.

TOI-238 c was discovered through radial velocity measurements. It has a mass of 6.7 Earth masses, a radius of 2.18 Earth radii, and an orbital period of 8.47 days. Its mean density is 3.56 g/cm³, which is 0.647 times Earth's. Among the listed planets, TOI-238 c has the longest year, the largest radius, and the largest reported mass. Both planets' reported radius and mass estimates are larger than Earth's, and the star's reported mass, radius, and temperature are all smaller or cooler than the Sun's.
