TOI-198 b: An Earth-Like World Around a Cool Red Dwarf

TOI-198 is a single star 77.4 light-years away with one known planet. The host is an M0 V star, a small, cool red dwarf with 0.467 solar masses, 0.441 solar radii, and a temperature of 3650 K, making it less massive, less bulky, and cooler than the Sun. It is 5.3 billion years old.

The planet, TOI-198 b, was discovered in 2023 via the transit method, in which a planet crosses in front of its star from our viewpoint and causes a small dip in observed brightness. It is an Earth-like world, meaning its radius falls within 1.5 times Earth's radius. Its radius is 1.36 Earth radii, larger than Earth's, and its mass is 3.17 Earth masses, also larger than Earth's. Its mean density is 6.94 g/cm³, 1.26 times Earth's. It completes an orbit every 10.2 days.
