TOI-1823 b: A Jupiter-Like Planet Orbiting a Cool Dwarf Star

TOI-1823 is a single star located 234 light-years away with one known planet in orbit. The host star is estimated to be 6.3 billion years old, with a mass of 0.841 solar masses and a radius of 0.805 solar radii, making it both less massive and smaller than the Sun. Its temperature of 4930 K is also cooler than the Sun's.

The planet TOI-1823 b was discovered in 2024 by the transit method, in which a planet passes in front of its star from our viewpoint, causing a small dip in observed brightness. Classified as Jupiter-like, it has a radius of 7.54 Earth radii, well above the roughly four-Earth-radius threshold for that size class, and larger than Earth's radius. Its mass is 67.4 Earth masses, also greater than Earth's. The planet completes an orbit every 38.8 days.

With a mean density 0.866 g/cm³, TOI-1823 b is 0.157 times as dense as Earth.
