TOI-1601 b: A Jupiter-like World

TOI-1601 is a star located 1,100 light-years away. It has an age of 2.4 billion years, a mass of 1.51 solar masses, a radius of 2.19 solar radii, and a temperature of 5980 K. Its reported mass estimate is larger than the Sun's, as is its reported radius estimate, and its reported temperature is hotter than the Sun's. One planet orbits this host.

That planet is TOI-1601 b, a Jupiter-like world discovered by the transit method in 2021. A transit occurs when a planet passes in front of its star from our viewpoint, causing a small dip in observed brightness. TOI-1601 b has an orbital period of 5.33 days, a mass of 387 Earth masses, and a radius of 14.2 Earth radii. Its reported radius estimate is larger than Earth's, and its reported mass estimate is larger than Earth's as well. The planet's mass estimate is roughly 1.22 times Jupiter's mass, and its mean density is 0.745 g/cm³, 0.135 times Earth's.
