TOI-1416 b: A Super-Earth Around a Sun-Like Dwarf

TOI-1416 is a G9 V star located 179 light-years away. A trailing V marks a main-sequence dwarf, and its temperature class places it among the Sun-like stars, though the reported temperature of 4880 K is cooler than the Sun's. The star's reported mass estimate of 0.798 solar masses and radius estimate of 0.793 solar radii are both smaller than the Sun's. It is 6.9 billion years old.

One planet orbits this host. TOI-1416 b is a Super-Earth, a size class that reaches 2.5 times Earth's radius. It was discovered by transit in 2023, when the planet passed in front of its star from our viewpoint and caused a small dip in observed brightness. Its radius is 1.62 Earth radii, larger than Earth's, and its mass is 3.48 Earth masses, also larger than Earth's. Its mean density is 4.51 g/cm³, 0.819 times Earth's. The planet completes an orbit every 1.07 days.
