TOI-1249 and Its Neptune-Like Planet

TOI-1249 is a star 455 light-years from Earth with a mass of 1.01 solar masses and a radius of 0.979 solar radii. Its reported radius estimate is smaller than the Sun's, and its temperature of 5500 K is cooler than the Sun's. The star is 4 billion years old. One planet has been found orbiting it.

That planet, TOI-1249 b, is Neptune-like, meaning its radius falls within the size class reaching up to four times Earth's radius. Its radius estimate is 3.27 Earth radii, larger than Earth's, and its mass estimate is 11.9 Earth masses, larger than Earth's, giving it a mean density of 1.87 g/cm³, 0.34 times Earth's.

TOI-1249 b was discovered in 2024 by the transit method, in which a planet passes in front of its star from our viewpoint, causing a small dip in observed brightness. Repeated dips help establish its orbital period of 13.1 days.
