TOI-1248 b: A Nearby Jupiter-Like Planet

TOI-1248 is a star 550 light-years away with one known planet. The star is 5.5 billion years old and has a mass of 0.904 solar masses, a radius of 0.869 solar radii, and a temperature of 5210 K. Its mass and radius are smaller than the Sun's, and it is cooler than the Sun.

The planet, TOI-1248 b, was discovered by transit in 2024. A transit occurs when a planet passes in front of its star from our viewpoint, causing a small dip in observed brightness. TOI-1248 b has a mass of 27.4 Earth masses and a radius of 6.81 Earth radii. Both its mass and radius are larger than Earth's. Its mean density is 0.478 g/cm³, 0.0868 times Earth's. With a radius exceeding four times Earth's, it is classified as Jupiter-like, and it completes an orbit every 4.36 days.
