TOI-1221 b: A Neptune-Like Planet Orbiting a Distant Star

TOI-1221 is a star located 451 light-years from Earth. It is older than the Sun, with an age of 10 billion years, and has 0.93 solar masses and 1.03 solar radii, making its reported radius estimate larger than the Sun's. Its temperature of 5590 K is cooler than the Sun's. One planet orbits this host.

TOI-1221 b is a Neptune-like planet discovered by the transit method in 2023. A transit occurs when a planet passes in front of its star from our viewpoint, causing a small dip in observed brightness. The planet completes one orbit every 91.7 days. Its radius is 2.91 Earth radii, larger than Earth's. Neptune-like planets reach 4 times Earth's radius. Its mass is reported as an upper limit of 1112.3994245 Earth masses.
