TOI-1174 and Its Neptune-Like Planet

TOI-1174 is a star 309 light-years away with a mass of 0.843 solar masses, a radius of 0.785 solar radii, and a temperature of 5160 K. It is 2.7 billion years old. Its reported mass and radius estimates are smaller than the Sun's, and its reported temperature is cooler than the Sun's. One planet orbits this host.

That planet is TOI-1174 b, a Neptune-like world discovered in 2024 by the transit method, in which a planet passes in front of its star from our viewpoint and causes a small dip in observed brightness. Repeated dips help establish orbital periods. TOI-1174 b completes an orbit every 8.95 days and has a radius of 2.56 Earth radii, larger than Earth's.
