TOI-1173 b: A Jupiter-Like Planet Around a Sun-Like Star

TOI-1173 is a G9 star 432 light-years away, and it hosts one known planet. The star is estimated to be 8.7 billion years old, with a mass of 0.911 solar masses and a radius of 0.934 solar radii. Its temperature is 5350 K. The star's reported mass and radius estimates are smaller than the Sun's, and its reported temperature is cooler than the Sun's.

The planet, TOI-1173 b, was discovered in 2024 by the transit method. A transit occurs when a planet passes in front of its star from our viewpoint, causing a small dip in observed brightness. TOI-1173 b orbits its star every 7.06 days. It is classified as Jupiter-like, and its radius of 8.78 Earth radii is larger than Earth's. Its mass is 28.3 Earth masses, also larger than Earth's, and its mean density is 0.231 g/cm³, 0.0418 times Earth's.
