Ross 176 is a K7 V star located 151 light-years away, and it hosts one known planet. The star is a main-sequence dwarf with a spectral type that places it in the cooler K class. Its mass is 0.577 solar masses, its radius is 0.569 solar radii, and its temperature is 4040 K, all of which make it smaller, cooler, and less massive than the Sun. The star's age is 3 billion years.
The sole cataloged planet, Ross 176 b, was discovered by the transit method in 2025. A transit occurs when a planet crosses in front of its star from our viewpoint, producing a small dip in observed brightness, and repeated dips help establish the planet's orbital period. Ross 176 b is classified as a Super-Earth, a size class that reaches up to 2.5 times Earth's radius. Its measured radius is 1.84 Earth radii, and its mass is 4.57 Earth masses. Both figures are larger than the corresponding values for Earth. The planet completes one orbit in 5.01 days.
Ross 176 b's mean density is 4.04 g/cm³, which is 0.734 times Earth's.
