RR Cae b: A Circumbinary World Around a Cool Red Dwarf

RR Cae is a binary star system 69.1 light-years away. Its host star is an M-type dwarf with a mass of 0.162 solar masses, a radius of 0.193 solar radii, and a temperature of 3900 K, making it smaller, less massive, and cooler than the Sun. One planet is known to orbit this host.

That planet, RR Cae b, is circumbinary, meaning it orbits both stars of the binary system rather than one star alone. It was discovered in 2012 through Eclipse Timing Variations. Its minimum mass is 1330 Earth masses, roughly 4.2 times Jupiter's mass and larger than Earth's, and it completes one orbit every 4340 days.
