PSR J1719-1438 is a pulsar, the small dense remnant of a massive star, located 3910 light-years away. It has one planet. The host star is 12.5 billion years old, has a reported mass of 1.4 solar masses, and a reported upper limit of 4500 K. Its reported mass estimate is larger than the Sun’s.
Pulsar timing detects planets by measuring the clock-like radio pulses of a pulsar; tiny shifts in the pulse schedule reveal orbiting planets. This method found PSR J1719-1438 b in 2011.
PSR J1719-1438 b has a reported lower limit of 382.8 Earth masses and an orbital period of 0.0907 days.
