NGTS-4 and Its Neptune-Like Planet

NGTS-4 is a star 915 light-years away with one known planet. The host star has a reported mass of 0.859 solar masses and a radius of 0.86 solar radii, both smaller than the Sun's. Its temperature is 5110 K, cooler than the Sun's.

The planet NGTS-4 b was discovered in 2019 by the transit method, in which a planet passes in front of its star from our viewpoint, causing a small dip in observed brightness. Repeated dips help establish orbital periods. NGTS-4 b completes an orbit in 1.34 days.

NGTS-4 b is Neptune-like, a size class that reaches 4 times Earth's radius. Its radius is 3.18 Earth radii, larger than Earth's, and its mass is 20.6 Earth masses, also larger than Earth's. Its mean density is 3.53 g/cm³, 0.641 times Earth's.
