L 363-38 b: A Close-Ranging World Around a Cool Dwarf

L 363-38 is a single-star system 33.4 light-years away, and one planet has been found around it. The host star is estimated to be 8.07 billion years old, with a mass of 0.21 solar masses and a radius of 0.274 solar radii. Its temperature is 3130 K, making it cooler than the Sun. The star's reported mass and radius estimates are also smaller than the Sun's.

The system's only known planet, L 363-38 b, was discovered in 2023 by the radial velocity method. That technique measures the wobble a planet's gravity induces in its star's motion; repeated wobbles reveal the planet and its orbital period. L 363-38 b has a minimum mass of 4.67 Earth masses, a lower bound on its true mass, and completes an orbit every 8.78 days. Its minimum mass is larger than Earth's.
