Kepler-98 and Its Super-Earth

Kepler-98 is a star 1140 light-years away with one known planet. The host star is 2.79 billion years old and has a mass of 0.99 solar masses, a radius of 1.11 solar radii, and a temperature of 5540 K, which is cooler than the Sun's reported temperature.

The planet Kepler-98 b was discovered in 2014 by the transit method, in which a planet passes in front of its star from our viewpoint and causes a small dip in observed brightness. Repeated dips help establish orbital periods. Kepler-98 b is a Super-Earth, a size class that reaches up to 2.5 times Earth's radius. Its radius is 1.99 Earth radii, larger than Earth's, and its mass is 3.55 Earth masses, also larger than Earth's. It completes an orbit in 1.54 days, and its mean density is 2.48 g/cm³, 0.45 times Earth's.
