Kepler-978 and Its Neptune-Like Planet

Kepler-978 is a star located 2230 light-years from Earth. It is 3.63 billion years old and has a mass of 1.07 solar masses and a radius of 1.09 solar radii. Its temperature of 6000 K is hotter than the Sun's. One planet is known to orbit this host.

That planet, Kepler-978 b, was discovered by the transit method in 2016. A transit occurs when a planet passes in front of its star from our viewpoint, causing a small dip in observed brightness. Kepler-978 b completes one orbit every 49.6 days. Its radius of 2.99 Earth radii is larger than Earth's and places it among the Neptune-like planets, whose radii reach 4 times Earth's.
