Kepler-973 and Its Super-Earth

Kepler-973 is a star 1070 light-years away with one known planet in orbit around it. The host star is 2.29 billion years old, has a mass of 0.86 solar masses, a radius of 0.78 solar radii, and a temperature of 5210 K. Its reported mass and radius estimates are smaller than the Sun's, and its reported temperature is cooler than the Sun's.

The planet, Kepler-973 b, is classified as a Super-Earth, a size class that reaches up to 2.5 times Earth's radius. It was discovered in 2016 by the transit method, in which a planet passes in front of its star from our viewpoint and causes a small dip in observed brightness. Kepler-973 b has an orbital period of 49.6 days and a radius of 1.96 Earth radii, which is larger than Earth's.
