Kepler-96 and Its Neptune-Like Planet

Kepler-96 is a star 401 light-years away with one known planet in orbit around it. The host star is 2.34 billion years old and has a mass of 1 solar masses and a radius of 1.02 solar radii. Its temperature is 5690 K, cooler than the Sun's.

The system's only listed planet is Kepler-96 b, a Neptune-like world discovered by the transit method in 2014. Transit detection means the planet passes in front of its star from our viewpoint, causing a small dip in observed brightness. Kepler-96 b has a mass of 8.46 Earth masses and a radius of 2.67 Earth radii, both larger than Earth's. Its mean density is 2.45 g/cm³, 0.444 times Earth's. The planet completes an orbit every 16.2 days.
