Kepler-951: A Cooler, Smaller Star and Its Jupiter-Like Planet

Kepler-951 is a star located 1250 light-years away, and the planets orbiting it number one. The host star is 4.27 billion years old, has a mass of 0.77 solar masses and a radius of 0.73 solar radii, and its temperature is 4830 K. Its reported mass and radius estimates are smaller than the Sun's, and its reported temperature is cooler than the Sun's.

The single planet, Kepler-951 b, was discovered by transit in 2016. A transit occurs when a planet passes in front of its star from our viewpoint, causing a small dip in observed brightness. Kepler-951 b completes an orbit every 71.5 days and has a radius of 5.59 Earth radii, larger than Earth's. That radius places it among the Jupiter-like planets, a size class exceeding 4 times Earth's radius.
