Kepler-886 and Its Super-Earth

Kepler-886 is a star 2320 light-years away with one known planet. The host star is 3.39 billion years old, has a mass of 1.1 solar masses, a radius of 1.16 solar radii, and a temperature of 6100 K. Its mass, radius, and temperature are all reported as larger or hotter than the Sun's.

The sole planet, Kepler-886 b, was discovered in 2016 by the transit method, in which a planet passing in front of its star from our viewpoint causes a small dip in observed brightness. Repeated dips help establish orbital periods. Kepler-886 b completes an orbit every 6.24 days. With a radius of 1.52 Earth radii, it is classified as a Super-Earth, a size class reaching 2.5 times Earth's radius. Its radius is larger than Earth's.
