Kepler-863 and Its Neptune-Like Planet

Kepler-863 is a star located 4890 light-years away. The star is 3.8 billion years old and has a mass of 0.96 solar masses, a radius of 0.95 solar radii, and a temperature of 5680 K. One planet orbits Kepler-863.

That planet is Kepler-863 b, a Neptune-like world discovered by the transit method in 2016. During a transit, a planet passes in front of its star from our viewpoint and causes a small dip in observed brightness; repeated dips help establish orbital periods. Kepler-863 b completes one orbit every 15.6 days, and its radius is 2.9 Earth radii. Its reported radius estimate is larger than Earth's.
