Kepler-778 and Its Super-Earth

Kepler-778 is a star 3060 light-years away with one known planet in orbit around it. The host star is 5.25 billion years old and has a mass of 0.81 solar masses, a radius of 0.77 solar radii, and a temperature of 5100 K. Its mass, radius, and temperature are all smaller or cooler than the Sun's.

The system's only known planet, Kepler-778 b, is a Super-Earth discovered by the transit method in 2016. A transit occurs when a planet passes in front of its star from our viewpoint, dimming the starlight slightly; repeated dips reveal the planet's orbital period. Kepler-778 b completes an orbit every 3.76 days and has a radius of 1.68 Earth radii, larger than Earth's. That radius places it within the Super-Earth size class, which extends to 2.5 times Earth's radius.
