Kepler-731 b: A Jupiter-Like World in a Close Orbit

Kepler-731 is a star located 4100 light-years away. It has a mass of 1.03 solar masses and a radius of 1.06 solar radii, making it slightly larger and more massive than the Sun. Its temperature is 5850 K, and it is 3.8 billion years old. One planet is known to orbit this host.

That planet, Kepler-731 b, is classified as Jupiter-like, a size class for planets with radii exceeding 4 times Earth's. Its radius is 13.9 Earth radii, larger than Earth's. It completes an orbit every 3.86 days. The planet was discovered in 2016 by the transit method, in which a planet passing in front of its star from our viewpoint causes a small dip in observed brightness.
