Kepler-718: A Distant Star With a Close-Running Giant

Kepler-718 is a star located 4250 light-years away. It has 1.18 solar masses, a radius of 1.3 solar radii, and a temperature of 6190 K. Its age is 2.57 billion years. The star's reported mass estimate is larger than the Sun's, its reported radius estimate is larger than the Sun's, and its reported temperature is hotter than the Sun's.

One planet orbits Kepler-718. Kepler-718 b was discovered in 2016 by the transit method, in which a planet passes in front of its star from our viewpoint and causes a small dip in observed brightness. Repeated dips help establish orbital periods. The planet completes an orbit every 2.05 days.

Kepler-718 b is classified as Jupiter-like, a size class for planets exceeding 4 times Earth's radius. Its radius is 16.6 Earth radii, larger than Earth's.
