Kepler-7: A Distant Star With a Puffy Giant Planet

Kepler-7 is a star 3010 light-years away with a single known planet. The host star is 3.5 billion years old, has 1.35 solar masses, a radius of 1.84 solar radii, and a temperature of 5930 K. Its reported mass and radius estimates are larger than the Sun's, and its reported temperature is hotter than the Sun's.

The planet Kepler-7 b is a Jupiter-like world discovered by transit in 2009. Its orbital period is 4.89 days, its mass is 140 Earth masses, and its radius is 18.2 Earth radii. Both its reported radius and mass estimates are larger than Earth's, and its radius places it well beyond the Jupiter-like threshold of four Earth radii.
