Kepler-647: A Star With Two Known Worlds

Kepler-647 is a star located 3550 light-years away, with two planets orbiting it. The star is 4.27 billion years old and contains 1.03 solar masses, with a radius of 1.07 solar radii. Its temperature of 6020 K is hotter than the Sun's.

Both planets were found by the transit method, in which a planet passes in front of its star from our viewpoint and causes a small dip in observed brightness. Kepler-647 b, an Earth-like planet discovered in 2016, has a radius of 1.17 Earth radii, larger than Earth's, and an orbital period of 16.2 days, the shortest year among the listed planets. Kepler-647 c, a Jupiter-like planet discovered in 2020, has a radius of 4 Earth radii, larger than Earth's, and an orbital period of 29.7 days, the longest year among the listed planets, as well as the largest radius of the pair.
